The State Is A Bully

Once a statement of charges is issued a respondent will more likely than not be able to escape without paying a hefty price.  Regulatory agencies do not care if you are not guilty.  They know that taking a case to hearing is expensive and often beyond the reach of the ordinary working person.  As such, they also know that a respondent can often be made to settle, and admit some responsibility, simply by charging him or her.  They exact tribute for ending their persecution.  An analogy is the extortion that the mob used to obtain.If you find yourself in the cross hairs of your licensing body, do not assume that they will show mercy or even that the truth is a defense.  Obtain the assistance of an attorney before you talk.
