Washington State Department of Labor & Industries
The Department of Labor & Industries oversees matters important to workers and employers. L&I oversees workplace safety, minimum wage laws, rest and meal break requirements, and determines the eligibility and payout for workers injured on the job.
If you are injured at work or develop an occupational disease and your claim is accepted, workers’ compensation (L&I or your self‑insured employer) pays for medical care directly related to your accident or illness. If you are unable to work following your injury, you may be eligible for a portion of your lost wages. Most important, L&I or your self‑insured employer may help coordinate a safe and timely return to work.
If the Department denies your claim, you must act promptly to preserve your time sensitive right to appeal the decision.
Whatever the case, having competent representation is critical. Contact an attorney right away if you face an audit or have been injured on the job to ensure your rights are protected.
