Update regarding Washington State Board of Nursing

The Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (NCQAC or the Commission), soon to be changed to the Washington State Board of Nursing (WA BON), has put forward the next phase of implementing the Multistate Nurse Licensure Compact, we recently posted about: Washington State Enacts Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) — Seattle Litigation Group - Seattle Law Firm

Beginning July 24, 2023, as part of Phase 1, nurses with an active Multi-State License (MSL) issued from another State jurisdiction will be able to practice here—though if the MSL nurse is making Washington their primary state of residency, a Washington “single state” license application is still needed until Phase 2 implementation has resolved.  The current implementation plan is posted here: Implementation of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) | Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (wa.gov)

Otherwise, nurses with active MSL from elsewhere can start working July 24, 2023 after they verify and communicate their MSL information with their employer, complete requisite suicide prevention training, and update/submit demographic data via Nursys e-Notify and report completion to their employer.

Employers will have some hoops, too, primarily to know that beginning September 1, 2023, they must report MSL nurses they hire to the Commission within thirty (30) days of hire.
